We wanted to bring the food halls of Asia to Birmingham: lots of independent kitchens under one roof, each one cooking the dishes it does best. Walk the floor, read the lit menu boards, and order from as many counters as you fancy. Nobody has to agree on one cuisine, and that is the whole point.
Thai, Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese and Malaysian counters across two floors in Birmingham's Chinatown. Top up a card, order from any kitchen you like, and meet back at the table when the buzzer goes.
The system is simple. Top up a card at the counter by cash or card, use it at any stall, and take a buzzer so you know when your food is ready to collect. There is an ATM by the top up counter if you need it, and no service charge on anything.
The drinks bar sits on the first floor, pouring beer and wine to go with whatever your table has ordered. The fridges run to bottled Asian lagers and cider: Tsingtao, Asahi, Sapporo, Chang, Singha, Snow and Cobra, served straight from the bottle.

The room is a big, open glass-fronted hall over two floors, hung with red and gold lanterns, with tables that push together easily for big groups. Students, families, workmates on lunch: everyone eats here, and everyone eats something different.

Visitors keep coming back to the sheer choice: five or six cuisines in one room, generous portions, and prices people call very reasonable for what arrives on the tray.
The top up card and buzzer system divides opinion at first but wins people over: easy to use, no service charge, and you can order from several kitchens in one sitting.
Diners often say the food tastes like the real thing, from Vietnamese pho to Thai dishes cooked by Thai cooks, fresh, fast and full of flavour, in a clean room with friendly staff.
